CWU VolunteersThe Church Women United (CWU) of Oxford are representatives from four Oxford churches: St. Joseph's, St. Paul's, United Methodist, and the United Church of Oxford. For further CWU information, contact: Sue Hubbard (607) 843-9635. Other CWU ProjectsWorld Day of Prayer: The Church Women United and the World Day of Prayer USA Committee collaborate to present a World Day of Prayer (WDP). Each year they come together on the first Friday of March to observe a common day of prayer. The service is sponsored by a different church with a new theme annually. WDP is an international event that unites Protestant, Roman Catholic, Orthodox and other Christian women and men in over 170 countries around the world. Throughout the day, from the first sunrise to the last sunset, prayers follow the sun's path around the globe. Spoken in hundreds of languages and dialects, WDP strives to bring "informed prayer and prayerful action" to our communities.
Community Mitten Tree: Each year, from the first Saturday in November until the first Friday in December, a pine tree is set up in the NBT Bank of Oxford, located at 10 North Canal Street (in the Mirabito-Quickway building). With generosity by the community, it gets filled with colorful knit mittens, hats, and slippers. (For safety reasons, scarves are not accepted.) New toys and books are sometimes donated too, and placed under the tree. The CWU collects these ‘gifts from the heart’ and uses them to fill the annual Community Christmas Baskets. If there are any extras, they're donated to the Oxford Primary School and to Oxford Head Start to keep little heads, hands, and feet warm. |
| Open: Tuesdays thru Fridays, from 9 AM to 4 PM and Saturdays 9 AM to 1 PM | Monetary donations can be made at the store or checks can be mailed to: Oxford Food Pantry, United Church of Oxford, Fort Hill Park, Oxford, NY 13830 |

Thanksgiving Dinner: Since 1984, the Church Women United (CWU) of Oxford and St. Joseph's Church have sponsored a Thanksgiving Dinner, on Thanksgiving Day from noon to 1 PM, at St. Joseph's Church, located at 3 Scott Street in Oxford, NY. This event invites all persons, from the communities of Oxford and McDonough, in need of fellowship on this family day of giving thanks.
